There are a great many variations of Linux out there in the world. Some people will say to
you that "Linux" is really just a kernel and then a great pile of software that runs on top
of that "Linux kernel". True. Very true. Do not be concerned with this detail and simply
select a variation that is close to what we need. VMware Workstation has a whole collection
of possible flavours here. Devuan Linux is nearly identical to "Debian" Linux in every way
except far better in that it does not have the massive overloaded Microsoft SystemD layer to
weigh it down at every step. Here we select the highest revision of Debian 64-bit style
that VMware Workstation knows about. To be fair, there are hundreds of Linux variations out
in the world and you could even just build your own Linux From Scratch if you wished. Not
today. Today we just plow forwards with Devuan Linux.
