One of the worst names in computer hardware lingo would be the Small Computer
System Interface. What we love to call scuzzy or just SCSI. At the time of
its conception we have large IBM MainFrames with entire office floors of huge
blue DASD towers. We had "mini" computers and a new thing called the "workstation"
computer. The "Personal" computer was seen as a tiny little thing. A hobby. Even
a curiosity to be played with. Certainly never to be used for real computational
work. It was a surprise to a lot of people that such machines would need more
than a 360KB floppy drive. Suffice it to say that large storage arrays filled
from the floor to the ceiling with "SCSI" disks arrived sooner than anyone would
have expected.
