The “VMware Hardware Compatibility” option is really of some concern to
people that also have the big VMware vSphere ESXi servers. For most of us
we can leave this at Workstation 10.x or go upwards to the latest revision
you have. However, if you do this, you may not be able to migrate this virtual
machine to ESXi. Therefore ESXi compatibility is a good thing.
